Pisanki

This Easter I made traditional Polish pisanki (they're also known in the US as Ukrainian pysanky).  I've never made them before so I picked a few simple designs to start with and then a couple slightly more complex ones (nothing crazy).  Here were the results of the 5 I managed to make over the weekend.

The first 5 pisanki I've ever made

Here is the reverse of the egg in the front row:
Ode to Lola.

She was quite pleased with her egg, though I don't think she was too pleased with the amount of time I spent working on it and not playing with her. Here are some photos of the egg during its creation:

The corgi egg after the yellow and orange dye baths. I've already added the next layer of wax before and am about to place the egg into the scarlet dye.
The corgi egg after it's been dyed and dried but before I've removed all the beeswax.  Someone's a messy corgi!

Puppies!

My cousin sent me this link to live 24/7 cam of 4 corgi pups.  They mostly sleep and eat, but do play a little with each other.  I think the mom, Brinkley, looks a lot like Lola.  Lola enjoys watching the puppies, she laid her head down on the keyboard and just stared at the screen watching them move around their little area.  Oh Lola!  I think she'd have been a good mom, but I wouldn't want to have her pass on her messed up elbow to any other pups.

Long Time, No Post

It's been FOREVER, I know!  I'm still in NY with Lola.  She's not getting along with my parents' dogs Abby and Sadie, though she and Satch are still good buds (thankfully!)  Though to be honest, Sadie isn't getting along with any of the dogs...  No idea why this started.  Anyway....

I've been doing my genealogy more and more, and I've made some new connections.  In fact, my 3rd cousin, 2x removed, David Day, has a corgi boy named Riley.

Riley Day
David and I are connected through our McDonald line (a name I' hadn't heard until about 2008, and even then, outside my grandfather who gave me the info, no one had heard of the McDonalds in my family!)  David was pretty insistent that his and my love for corgis was a McDonald thing.  Maybe Riley and Lola (who are 4th cousins 2x removed) will get to meet one day!  Lola does love to travel!

After 1 Week in NY

Lola has been getting along well with the other 3 dogs in the house.  A few scuffles, but nothing too bad.  Took her out to a field the other day to run around off leash, and boy was she exhausted!

Almost Done Packing

Lola is pooped after a grueling 5 hours of watching me pack, too bad there's another 4-5 hours ahead!  She'll probably go crazy tomorrow when I take all the boxes out and the apartment has next to nothing left in it.

That Funny Lil' Lola O' Mine

So, Lola has been angry since I sold the couch since she has "no place" to lay down.  So today I took some of my extra bed pillows and a fleece blanket and made a makeshift couch or at least put them down where the couch was.  She immediately went over and passed out there after our walk today.

Lola on the couch while Arrested Development was on.

The new "couch."  She was passed out and buried her nose in the blanket until I touched my camera phone, then she sat up to look at me.  But she's been sleeping there all day since I made this for her.
